OCD: 35mm Autofocus
Point and shoots aside, 35mm Autofocus cameras take up the vast majority of today's camera offerings, and it's easy to see why. With SLR bodies teaming with features, automation, and ease of use, these cameras have almost entirely displaced the older manual focus bodies and made photography much easier. Professionals, particularly photojournalists and sports photographers, have found autofocus invaluable, and the number of "old school" photojouralists with manual focus gear has dropped significantly. A number of photographers have also hailed autofocus as a miricle that solves focusing problems due to bad eyesight.
In talking to different people about various systems, you will likely find a number of very strong opinions regarding each brand, particularly with Canon and Nikon. However, when it comes right down to the bottom line, each of the current AF systems is quite good and will satisfy the needs of most photographers. Thus selecting the right camera comes down more to features and handling than the brand name. And now, the camera systems!
