OCD: Hasselblad
Hasselblad has remained at the forefront of medium format since they first started producing 2 1/4 SLR cameras in 1949. With exceptional Zeiss lenses and unsurpassed quality and service, Hasselblad continues to be one of the most popular brands with professionals and serious amateurs despite the fact that the equipment is perhaps the most expensive in medium format (both new and used). Where Bronica, Pentax, and the other manufacturers tend to see trends of regional popularity, Hasselblad is universally known and used, and it is extremely difficult to live anywere in the US and not have a full Hasselblad dealer relatively close by. This is by no means a small accomplishment. While I and others have not chosen to use Hasselblad for price or other considerations, it is impossible not to respect the quality of Hasselblad equipment.
Unlike other sections in the medium format section, the Hasselblad section is broken up into two parts - a look at the actual cameras (forthcoming) and a very interesting history of the company as provided to me by Hasselblad. For both Hasselblad owners and those merely interested in Hasselblad cameras, I highly recommend reading the history as it provides excellent insight into the development of one of the most influential camera manufacturers in the world. The system page will be a breif overview of the system (old and new models) and will include another stellar tidbit from Hasselblad - a section answering the question, "How old is my camera?"
